Ferrari recenlty released a new model, the 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia. This car is a newer version of the Ferrari F430. The numbers come from the engine displacement which is 4.8 liters and the 8 cylinder engine. They added the Italia because the makers felt it truly represented Ferrari's homeland, Italy. With the new V8 engine and the 4.8 liter injection, this car maxes out at 570 hp with 9000 revolutions per minute. Like other Ferraris, the 458 Italia has fast acceleration and goes 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. The top speed so far has been 202 mph. The car looks very similar to the F430 but is far superior. The manufacturers aimed to improve evrything about the F430 to make 458 Italia as fast as possible. This new Ferrari competes with the new Audi R8, Aston Martin DBS, the Corvette ZR1, the Nissan GT-R, and the Lamborghini Gallardo. If you recognize these cars you know that this is no idle threat. These cars area top of the line speed machines and are built to be superior to every other car. While car companies have to worry about competing with their rivals we can sit back and enjoy the results. Thank Ferrari and other car companies for making cars like these.

Today in class we did a lab on amorphous solids. An amorphous solid is also known as a slow moving liquid and has characteristics of both solids and liquid. The material we worked with was water and cornstarch mixed together which created a very cool substance called Goop. Goop would turn solid when pressure was applied to it but would turn liquidy when the pressure was released. we also learned about other amorphous solids like glass. Scientists are still debating whether glass was truly an amorphous solid. Studies show that glass from about thirty years drips down to the bottom so that the bottom of the glass is thicker than the top. This means that the glass is slowly dripping from the top down to the bottom. We learned that there are 4 states of matter: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. Plasma is found mostly in outerspace and is rare on earth. If scientists can find out how to control it it can be very useful and can possibly solve many of our problems with energy. Some substances can go through each of the other phases though. Water can be a solid liquid and a gas.

Scientists have done studies to figure out that wolves generally use logic more than domesticated dogs do. They performed experiments to prove that while wolves trust their senses and instincts, dogs trust what the human tells them to do. In one of the experiments a ball was placed in box A. Both species were able to find the ball in box A. The dogs learned from the humans who told them it was in box A. The wolves sniffed the ball out and found it in box A. Next the scientist moved the ball to box B. The dogs continued to search box A for the ball while the wolves followed their eyes and found it in box B. Scientists found that while this makes wolves superior in using logic, dogs will be better adapting to humans lifestyle which will be valuable to being a good pet.

In the movie, October Sky, there was a boy named, Homer Hickam who was inspired when he saw Sputnik flying in space. He wanted more than anything to build a rocket that can go to space. Homer Hickam lived in a mining town where his dad wanted him to continue the family tradition of working in the mine. His father did not approve of his ambition of creating rockets. Homer and his friends found a deserted hill where they made and shot rockets. Many of their first rockets failed but eventually they got them to work correctly. His town was very proud of him and his sick teacher was very supportive. The police showed up at his school one day and accused Homer and his friends of starting a forest fire with a stray rocket. But using trigonometry or something he proved that the rocket could not have in fact started that fire. With encouragement from his teacher, him and his friends entered in a science fair and won. If they didn't win they probably wouldn't have made this movie so that was predictable. In the end his father accepted him which I knew would happen in the beginning of the movie because every movie is like that. This movie was inspiring because a boy froma poor town followed his draems and did something great.

Klinefelter Syndrome is a disease that only men can get. Men with this disease cannot reproduce because of the extra sex cell that they were born with. This disease was discovered by Dr. Henry Klinefelter. Symptoms include breast cancer, germ cell tumors, diabetes, and arthritis. I feel bad for the people with Klinefelters Syndrome because they can never have biological children and they have a 40% chance of death. I agree with this blog that getting this disease can be catastrophic. However, don't understand how testosterone treatment makes someone look more manly. Overall I think that Klinefelter Syndrome is a horrible disease to get and I can understand how hard life would be for people with this disease.

Canavan Disease

Imagine not living past the age of ten. Patients that are suffering from Canavan Disease have to live knowing that they most likely won't live to be a double-digit age. Symptoms of Canavan Disease are mental retardation, loss of previously learned motor skills, abnormal muscle tone, and an abnormally large, poorly controlled head. Paralysis and hearing loss can occur. There is currently no known cure for Canavan Disease. This disease tends to be more common in Jewish people due to the fact that they usually originate from eastern and central European. This deadly disease was discovered in 1931. If you think your life is hard and that everything bad always happens to you think about living life with multiple health problems that make your life excruciatingly hard. And even though you may fight hard against the disease, it will always be in the back of your mind that you will not live to see your eleventh birthday.

In class today we started making DNA keychains. We each got a bag of colored beads and a DNA code. The instructions were to create a key for the DNA code and color in the DNA lines using the code. After coloring in the DNA patterns we started putting the beads on wire to make them look like the DNA pattern we had on our papers. Each of our patterns are unique, just like those of humans. We started making the keychain today and we will continue working on it tommorrow. The finished result looks like DNA and it is pretty cool. DNA is determined by the parents alleles. That's why the offspring tends to look like the parents it came from. DNA determines what you look like so that's why everyones appearance is different. Your genetic traits are also determined by your DNA. DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. In conclusion, your DNA controls what genetic traits you have and the genetic traits you are able to get are determined by your parents alleles. DNA controls the way you look and everybody's DNA is different.

Roller Coaster

We made roller coasters in class today to demonstrate Newtons Three Laws of Physics. Our roller coaster was built with paper towel tubes and tape. It had three hills, a roller coaster aspect, and used a marble as the cart. While building our roller coaster we had to factor in friction, force, acceleration, and velocity. we started the roller coaster with a tall tube so it would have more time to accelerate to a greater velocity. We also tried to minimize the upward movement of the marble because the friction would slow it down. We had the marble moving down a lot so it would be going fast enough to complete the hills. Our roller coaster worked well after we finished construction. We learned a lot and had fun building this project.

2009 Ferrari California

What does 250,000 dollars mean to you? For some people it means a new house or a awesome college fund. However, what they don't know is with that money they can buy the brand new 2009 Ferrari California. This car, made in Italy, is a state of the art driving machine. The transmission, suspension and engine are all top of the notch. In fact, the engine is a V8 which means it has 8 cylinders. That gives it a lot more power a V6. The new Ferrari can hit 62 mph in less than 4.0 seconds. That's fast! This car has a 7 speed dual clutch transmission that makes this possible. However, besides performance this car also looks amazing. The sleek aerodynamic build gives it a very attractive look. This car is also a convertible so everyone would see you when you went driving in this amazing car. Can you imagine the look on one of your friends face if they saw you driving this?

2009 Presidential Inauguration

On January 20, 2009, a presidential inauguration was held. But this was no regular inauguration. This was for Barack Obama, our first Black president. He is the 44th president of the United States and will hopefully be a great one. Him and the new Vice President, Joe Biden, had to take an oath to defend the United States and the Constitution. After Barack Obama took an oath he gave a speech. He talked about the bad times our country is going through and how we have to change them. There were also a few performances at the inauguration. There was a musical performance of " Air and other Free things". In my opinion it sounded very good. After his speech there was someone who recited a poem. Our former president, George Bush was there too. Barack Obama escorted him out to a helicopter after the inauguration. This tradition was started by George Bush's father and Ronald Reagan. In my opinion the inauguration was very good.

ARTICLE 1

This article talks about the oath Obama took and the speech he gave. It talked about how he was entering " A New Era Of Responsibility" due to all the new challenges in economy and terrorism. Obama's speech was talked about. Many of the things he said pleased the crowd but, when he said "This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed... why a man whose father less than 60 years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath" he got the most cheers.

ARTICLE 2

This article told about that although most would celebrate on the first day of their presidency, Barack Obama kept himself somber so he could address the problems we faced. He remained honest and serious the whole time. It wrote ow he reminded everyone of the problems we faced but how we could also overcome them. "In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given," he said. "It must be earned." To do this, he said we would have to give up on old habits that are hurting us. He reminded everyone that America is a friend of anyone or any nation who seeks peace and prosperity.

MY OPINION

In my opinion the inauguration was amazing to watch. All the performances were performed well. The speech he gave was very moving. Hopefully we chose right when we chose Obama because our nation depends on it.
